Our Carrington Residence in Sydney's leafy Wahroonga demonstrates how thoughtful architectural planning can transform a challenging battleaxe site into an elegant family estate. Working within multiple site constraints, including an existing easement and utilities line, we've created a sophisticated interpretation of French Provincial architecture that balances grand proportions with subtle refinement.
A significant early challenge involved relocating an existing easement to accommodate the tennis court – a complex process requiring negotiations with Sydney Water and neighbouring properties. Drawing on our commercial project experience, we secured a deferred commencement approval that allowed construction preparation to proceed concurrently with easement negotiations.
The home's architectural expression deliberately softens traditional French Provincial elements into a more subtle contemporary interpretation. Clean lines and simplified profiles create an elegant street presence while maintaining the style's inherent grandeur. This refined approach continues throughout the interiors, where meticulous craftsmanship is evident in curved staircases, thoughtfully placed arches, and carefully considered spatial transitions.
Our planning strategy was informed by Feng Shui principles and the family's lifestyle. Open-plan living areas flow seamlessly into outdoor spaces and a dedicated performance area for the clients' children. Despite the technical challenges presented by the site, the resulting design appears effortlessly ordered. The tennis court, pool, and landscaped areas are arranged to create a sense of a private estate while maximising usable space.
