The Thompson Residence in Drummoyne, NSW, represents a bold transformation from its original structure. Through careful demolition and rebuilding, this contemporary home showcases a sophisticated earth-tone palette that marks a striking departure from its predecessor.

The façade achieves visual complexity through a thoughtful layering of materials. The ground level features a combination of rendered and off-form concrete, while the first floor employs timber cladding paired with Colorbond metal finishes. This material interplay is enhanced by minimalist window frames that act as architectural picture frames, adding depth and interest to the exterior composition.

The design language draws inspiration from elementary rectangular forms, creating a rhythmic interplay of geometry throughout. These clean lines and rectangular modules are repeated at varying scales across the façade and interior spaces, establishing a cohesive architectural narrative. Contemporary materials and linear profiles refine this geometric concept, resulting in a sophisticated minimalist aesthetic.

Careful consideration of the site's topography allowed us to position the home at an optimal height to capture water views. While the interior planning adheres to a precise rectangular grid, a curved arc balustrade introduces an elegant counterpoint to the linear geometry. This intentional contrast creates a distinctive design signature that flows seamlessly between internal and external spaces.
